I have recently received a series of questions about the saxophone and saxophone practise; I thought it would be useful to share the answers here for everyone in a series of blog posts.

Here's the second one...

2 - My C# to D change over needs work on the speed - any ideas?

Yes, yes I do! In fact I have already created a video on this very subject and the answer is in the Scale Library.

If you are signed up for Full Membership then you get access to everything on the site, this includes the Scale Library. Alternately, you can just buy lifetime access to the Scale Library on it's own, click here.

This is how to find the answer to this question of playing from C# to D:

  1. Go to the Scale Library - you can get there with THIS LINK
  2. Log in
  3. Scroll down to the bottom section, called “Technical Tips”
  4. Scroll down until you see “Get Better At Playing Over The Break”; click on this

In here is a video that works through exactly how to get better at this area of difficulty.

In the video I demonstrate the method that I have used in my own practise for years; I have also used this in my teaching practice with countless pupils to great effect.
